Who we are

The Oxford Commas is University of Oxford’s newest and (self-proclaimed) hottest a cappella group, rapidly making headways into the Oxford a cappella scene. We are a gender-inclusive, lower-voices group.

We sing a lot of what you would expect from pop a cappella, including 2010s pop classics and upbeat bangers. But they also take pride in their variety, occasionally dabbling in musical theatre, bossa-nova, and choral music, creating a mix in texture that is enjoyable to both perform and listen to.

On and off stage, we.accompany our lush harmonies with lightheartedness, an enthusiasm for performing, and a palpable sense of camaraderie. We believe liking each other is as important to us as the hunger for growth and musical excellence. Don’t take our word for it — numerous audience members and professional reviewers have noted our ability to strike a balance between a strong chemistry, and allowing individual personalities to shine.

The Commas was founded in 2015 by a motley crew of talented singers who wanted to escape the cliché of other established vocal groups. After a brief hiatus in the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had a resurgence after, having competed in the Open A cappella Competition as finalists, toured in Germany, and celebrated our successful Edinburgh Fringe debut, all in the past two years. We have considerable experience in performing for private events, and are always open to requests. We also strive to make music more accessible to the local community, having run numerous workshops for state schools across Oxfordshire.
